I heard on NPR

today...
that is a very common way for me to start a sentence.
More common the longer my commute.

But today I heard on NPR that you should google yourself, and perhaps consider a myname.com website, to make sure that you are in control of others first impressions. I am not sure that given these meager postings anyone would even find me, more likely to think I am dead, based on the obituaries that came up first int eh google search, Did you know there are 22 Jane Dempseys on Linked in? That seems significant as I was born on the 22nd...

So even if this blog just takes you to Laura, who is a gifted writer, at least I am making myself available to you for my own version of a first impression.

New innovation

So I am excited, Fernando (re) launched IDENTIFY GREASE yesterday, and found out today that the Annual meeting of the who's who in the lubrication industry are meeting a 3 hour drive away this weekend!

Who'd have thought, a WHOLE INDUSTRY for grease and lubrication. But I guess it becomes important when you realize that 50% Of all bearing failures occur because of improper lubrication. Crazzy

Not a bad result!

So We won.
Not that I am competitive...just thought I would mention, the winning boat in class 570 at the Marina this weekend, was captain'd by DISC's founder, Dr. Bray.

Disc is really at the Marina

Isn't it such a small world? A marina in Marina del Rey, Who'd have thought it?? The Marketing team at DISC are going to be out representing the Company at the CAL RACE WEEK events so probably just as well that I found the marina the other day....

I was talking to my brother in law this morning in Nice, France as I drove up the 405 to my new office in Marina Del Rey and he does IT for yachts and was so excited to hear about the technology that DISC is sponsoring for CAL RACE WEEK Sailing events here in Marina del rey. It is pretty cool stuff that DISC is sponsoring, called CATTAK, which shows you interactively where all the baots are, even better than the marathon tracking stuff, which seems pretty rudimentary in comparison. Though maybe there are advantages to people not being able to see you every step of the way, they migth wopnder why I am choosing to lie down and have a cat-nap at mile 18...

Anyway, hope to see some of the Sailing this weekend!

It's my Birthday!

Not quite as exciting as an earthquake; but in my world it is an opportunity to set a whole new list of new years resolutions! So it begins; to run more, eat better, be kinder, spend time with my friends, tell my family how much they mean to me.... More than anything, this opportunity coincides with one offered by a new job, in a whole new world, and it makes this birthday truly a new year.

In the epicenter of California....

So I am sitting at my new desk yesterday at D.I.S.C Sports and Spine chatting with the marketing team about the millions of brilliant projects that are in the works, when the second earthquake this week hits...
This time I am not sitting comfortably on my couch in a single level wood frame house 70 miles from the epicenter, but on the third floor of a steel frame strucutre a mere 4 miles from the epicenter. So Yesterdays 3.7 felt ALOT bigger than the weekends 4.7.
So I am feeling big chancges in my world this week, and find them all very exciting!

Earthquake and a whole new world..

Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 08:39:36 PM at epicenter
reading a magnitude 5
Only the second earthquake event of any significance that I have actually experienced since my move here in 2001!  So I am pretty excited!  I felt the whole house shake as if I was in a toy house that my niece kalila belle had somehow gotten her hands on...

Hope everyone is safe, though USGS doesn't seem to think it is an event of much significance so far! Did you feel it?  Tell USGS about it

Starting a new and exciting chapter in my work life tomorrow with DISC in Marina del rey, very close to todays earthquake; I will take it as a good sign!
